Episode 38: Advance of the Megacamel

I'm joined this week by Zack, Matt, Mike and Ashley, and if they can SHUT UP long enough for me to get on with the show, we'll discuss Jeff Minter's early obsession with drug-fueled quadrapeds, the barren wasteland that was Xbox Live Indie Games, the... classic? Spy vs. Spy franchise, the power of bigoted jokes to completely destroy an otherwise entertaining product, and one of the most influential and divisive games of the last decade. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Advance of the Megacamel AKA Attack of the Mutant Camels, for Atari 8-bit and PC; Who Did I Date Last Night?, for Xbox 360; Spy Vs. Spy 3: Arctic Antics, for PC and Atari 8-bit; Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger VS Darkdeath Evilman, for PSP; and Dark Souls, for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Episode 37: Tecmo World Wrestling

Okay, look. LOOK. This episode was RIDDLED with technical problems. It might be the single most technically fraught episode of Let's Place yet, and I'm including the one where I had to re-record the audio for over half of an episode. It was just a mess. Don't use Discord to record podcasts! It does a bad job. Anyway, if you can bear with us, I'm joined this week by Dina and new friends Josh, Jules, and Matt. We talk about seminal RTS games, terrible PC shovelware, morally dubious Atari games, awesome wrestling games, and we finally decide between Final Fight and Final Fight Guy. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Command and Conquer: Red Alert, for PC; Splash, for PC; Battle of Shiloh, for PC and Atari; Tecmo World Wrestling, for NES; and Final Fight, for SNES. You can find the complete up-to-date list of games at bit.ly/letsplace. Be sure to follow @SSJSpeedRacer on twitter for show announcments. You might be a guest on the next Let's Place!

Episode 36: The Fabulous Screech

WE'RE BACK. After a break that's been long enough that we're now averaging less than one episode a week, Let's Place has returned for Season 2! We got a new website, a new method for sourcing guests, and a new logo! Also I'm gonna stop writing these descriptions in the third person so I hope that's cool. Anyway, I'm joined by longstanding guests Tal and Dina, along with previous guest Tyler and a brand new friend, Fionna! Tal's attempt to be more positive is immediately destroyed by a bad Professor Layton knock-off, we learn how to LIVE FAST and DIE WET, Fionna MOCKS ME INCESSANTLY FOR THE PERFECTLY NORMAL WAY I PRONOUNCE "CRAYON," we get into some straight up Spongebob talk, and for the encore, we return to one of our favorite topics: horrifying children's games. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Laura Jones and the Gates of Good and Evil, for PC; Dead in the Water, for Playstation; The Fabulous Screech, for PC; Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants: Spongebob's Truth or Square; and Elsa Dentist Surgery Simulator. You can find the up to date list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace. Follow @SSJSpeedRacer on Twitter to suggest games for us to rank and to have a chance at guesting on the show!

Episode 35: Poems By Heart

It's that time again, everyone. Luke is joined by Sam, Tal, Jason and Graham to talk about pre-Flash Flash games, dubious Scottish ancestry, iPhone poetry, Japanese highway fireworks, and the last piece of our Pokemon puzzle (no relation to Pokemon Puzzle League, a  game we have not yet ranked).

Episode 33: Qwak!

Luke and Tal are joined by a new guest, Tyler, who unfortunately had some technical difficulties on his end that makes this episode sound like someone farting into a French horn. But that doesn't stop us from talking about subpar train simulators, the progenitor of Asteroids, the progenetor of Duck Hunt, Indiana Jones adventure games, and god-awful Sonic the Hedgehog knock-offs. Also it turns out that Tal is a duck.

Episode 32: Wii Sports

Alright alright alright, that's enough with the special episodes. We have work to do here. Luke is joined by Jason, Though Criminal Zack, Lau, and new guest Greg. They talk about obnoxious tryhard comedy, some game I didn't even remember that we ranked, the early days of the Fire Emblem series, our unironic love for Wii Sports, and competitive puzzlers. Also: lots and lots and lots of breast expansion fetishism. Episode 31: Pokemon Yellow Version

The much-hyped Pokemon episode is finally here! Luke is joined with Tal and Dina to suss out just how the various first generation Pokemon games stack up against one another. It turns out that there were so many different versions of the first Pokemon that we couldn't even cover them all in this episode! YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Pokemon Red Version (Japan), for GameBoy; Pokemon Green Version, for GameBoy; Pokemon Red Version (America), for GameBoy, Pokemon Blue Version (America), for GameBoy; and Pokemon Yellow Version, for GameBoy. You can find the up-to-date list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 30: The 2015 Game of the Year Screamathon

We're back after wayyyyy too long of a hiatus. On the other hand I published 6 months worth of episodes in about a third of that time, so I earned the break right? No? Okay. This time we deviate from our normal format a bit, as Luke gathers an all too cramped room of guests together to rank five of the most critically acclaimed games of 2015. The results may shock you! Blame Jason, Dina, Dustin, Lau, and Tal for the following crimes against video games. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Super Mario Maker, for Wii U; Rocket League, for PS4 and PC, and I think Xbox One by now?; Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3; Undertale, for PC; and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. You can see the up to date ranked list at bit.ly/letsplace.

Episode 29: Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Luke is rejoind with Jason and Dina, who FOR SOME REASON feels the need to point out that I've been lazy about rotating out guests lately!!! We talk about oddly named brain implants, Radio Wave Battle Network, aptly named PC games, the best-named entry in the Final Fight franchise, and my favorite game of all time. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Mega Man Starforce 2: Zerker X Ninja, for Nintendo 3DS; Mountains of Ket, for PC; Betty Bad, for PC; Final Fight Guy, for SNES; and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, for Playstation 2. You can find the full list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 28: Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2

Luke's rejoined by four old friends this week as Jason, Ty, Mike, and David come together for another round of ranking. Jason is determined to stop all the weird anime games dominating the top 10, so naturally we get a bunch of weird anime games this week. Luckily for him, they're all garbage. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: The Amulet, for PC; Guilty Gear 2: Overture, for Xbox 360; Dragon Ball Z: Super Butoden 2, for Super Famicom and 3DS; Vandyke, for Arcade; and E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy, for PC. You can find the up-to-date ranked list at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 27: Bayonetta

In this episode, returning guests Dina and Dustin combine their powers to talk about potentially ill-thought-out ports, hyper-obscure puzzle games, sanctioned fan games, sexy witches, and Danish toothbrushing games. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: MySims Kingdom, for Wii and Nintendo DS; Kaged, for PC; Street Fighter X Mega Man, for PC; Bayonetta, for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U; and Harald Hardtand: Kamperi om de rene taender, for PC. You can find the up-to-date list of games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 26: Elite Beat Agents

This week, Luke and returning guest Will drag a new guest, Jesse, from the burning pit of Tartarus to help them rank 5 new games. They discuss Telltale Games' dark period, the various semantic values of the character 'X', Wii U Real-Time Strategy, the ancient and dark origins of video game voice acting, and how much we all freakin' love Elite Beat Agents. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Back to the Future: The Game, for PC, Mobile, Wii, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One; Might and Magic X: Legacy, for PC; Swords and Soldiers II, for Wii U; Sinistar, for Arcade; and Elite Beat Agents, for Nintendo DS. You can find the up-to-date ranked list at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 25: Discworld MUD

The Christmas episode may have driven off of a cliff and exploded into massive fireball, but we still have three survivors! Luke is joined by Dina and Jason to revisit some classic Let's Place topics: low-rent MMORPGs, badly drawn anime pornography, and Forza, the first series to have two games ranked! Cong...ratulations? YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: 4story, for PC; Odo Yusha, for PC; Discworld MUD, for PC; Forza Motorsport 3, for Xbox 360; and You Don't Know Jack, for PC. You can find the up-to-date list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 24: The Let's Place Christmas Craptacular

Our Christmas episode is here, and before New Year's Eve! It's a post-Christmas miracle! Luke is joined by an uncomfortably packed panel of judges this week, starting off with returning guests Dina, Sam, Molly, Will, and Jason, while also picking up Dustin and Alex along the way. For the holidays, they discuss five Christmas games... well, okay, three Christmas games and two games vaguely related to Christmas. Jason is literally overcome by the holiday spirit, Sam drives us all insane by becoming the Anton Chigurh of podcasts, Alex makes a bad joke about menstruation, we talk for a while about the hit anime Everyday Life With Monster Girls, and the Joker got away, hey! Basically it's exactly what you'd expect from a Christmas episode of a trashpile of a podcast like this one. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Elf Bowling, for PC and Nintendo DS; Santa's Xmas Caper, for PC; Die Hard Trilogy, for Playstation; Batman: Arkham Origins, for PC, Wii U, PS3, and Xbox 360; and Christmas NiGHTS, for Sega Saturn. You can find the up-to-date list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 23: Captain Planet and the Planeteers (Sega Genesis)

Luke is joined by Molly, Jason, Ty, and Thought Criminal Zack to discuss the cynicism of Grand Theft Auto, what the Number Muncher got up to after he finished munchin' all those numbers, and... okay, look. They talk about Captain Planet's dick. Like, a lot. They spend a significant portion of this episode talking about Captain Planet's dick, and that is a fact you need to be aware of. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Captain Planet and the Planeteers, for Sega Genesis; xWUNG, for PC; Trivia Munchers Deluxe, for PC; Disney Pixar Cars, for GameCube, PC, PS2, Wii, Xbox, and Xbox 360; and Grand Theft Auto V, for PS3, XBox 360, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You can find the up-to-date ranked list at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 22: Vitamin X: We Are Super Supriment Boys

Luke is once again joined by 2 new guests! Dina comes in to make him feel bad for supporting the latent misogyny inherent in the premise of Bionic Commando (2009), while David comes in to make him feel bad for all those borderline racist things he said about the Danish in past episodes regarding other Danish guest Lau! When they're not making him feel bad, they talk about statutory rape, Russian strategy games, bad light gun games, super old flight combat simulators, and video game cult classics. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: Vitamin X: We Are Super Supriment Boys, for PS2; Sudden Strike: Resource War, for PC; Dino Stalker, for PS2; The Dam Busters, for PC; and Deadly Premonition, for Xbox 360 and PC. You can find the up-to-date list of ranked games at bit.ly/letsplace

Episode 21: SM Word

Luke is rejoined by Dave and Zack (the war criminal, not the thought criminal). This time around, they discuss The Price is Right, The Shining simulators, squandered horror potential, and the overwhelming power of Bob Barker's naval tactics. YOUR GAMES THIS WEEK ARE: The Price is Right Decades, for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Mobile; SM Word, for PC; Harpoon 3 Pro, for THE MILITARY AND NOT YOU; Silent Hill: Book of Memories, for PS Vita; and Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, for Xbox, GameCube, PS2, and Xbox 360.
